Thin polyethylene (LDPE) films with controlled crystalline morphology for studying plastic weathering and microplastic generation

چکیده

• LDPE films with controlled crystalline morphology were successfully prepared by dip coating method. Accelerate weathering experiment performed to study the influence of spherulite dimension on aging process. An increase erosion process for presenting largest spherulites is observed. Crack initiation favored film dimension. Erosion and crack propagation found be independent measured carbonyl index. Plastic pollution has become one most visible environmental issue. Studying fragmentation mechanism polymers therefore raises health issues. Since it particularly difficult monitor all these processes in real environment, laboratory studies are still necessary obtain more accurate data identify pathways leading outcome plastic debris environment. In this paper we present a new method prepare micrometer thick different thicknesses morphologies (i.e. size) using dip-coating dimensions submitted an accelerated test which indicates that size only weak rate photo-oxidation. However, large seem sensitive surface initiation. We believe developed can used control rapidly thin weathering) wide range semi-crystalline conditions thus help better understand fragment production plastics

Preparation, stabilization and characterization of TiO(2) on thin polyethylene films (LDPE). Photocatalytic applications.

An innovative way to fix preformed nanocrystalline TiO(2) on low-density polyethylene film (LDPE-TiO(2)) is presented. The LDPE-TiO(2) film was able to mediate the complete photodiscoloration of Orange II using about seven times less catalyst than a TiO(2) suspension and proceeded with a photonic efficiency of approximately 0.02. The catalyst shows photostability over long operational periods d...

Thermoviscoelastic Models for Polyethylene Thin Films

This paper presents a constitutive thermoviscoelastic model for thin films of linear low-density polyethylene subject to strains up to yielding. The model is based on the free volume theory of nonlinear thermoviscoelasticity, extended to orthotropic membranes. An ingredient of the present approach is that the experimentally inaccessible out-of-plane material properties are determined by fitting...

Morphology and interdiffusion behavior of evaporated metal films on crystalline diindenoperylene thin films

We present a transmission electron microscopy ~TEM!/Rutherford backscattering spectrometry ~RBS!/x-ray-diffraction ~XRD! study of Au evaporated on crystalline organic thin films of diindenoperylene ~DIP!. Cross-sectional TEM shows that the preparation conditions of the Au film ~evaporation rate and substrate temperature! strongly determine the interfacial morphology. In situ XRD during annealin...

Crystalline-to-plastic phase transitions in molecularly thin n-dotriacontane films adsorbed on solid surfaces.

Crystalline-to-rotator phase transitions have been widely studied in bulk hydrocarbons, in particular in normal alkanes. But few studies of these transitions deal with molecularly thin films of pure n-alkanes on solid substrates. In this work, we were able to grow dotriacontane (n-C(32)H(66)) films without coexisting bulk particles, which allows us to isolate the contribution to the ellipsometr...

Geometric evolution laws for thin crystalline films: modeling and numerics

Geometrical evolution laws are widely used in continuum modeling of surface and interface motion in materials science. In this article, we first give a brief review of various kinds of geometrical evolution laws and their variational derivations, with an emphasis on strong anisotropy. We then survey some of the finite element based numerical methods for simulating the motion of interfaces focus...
